We offer two convenient locations, to serve all the Tri-valley - Livermore and pleasanton
The award winning Cantabella Children’s Chorus is a non-profit organization committed to developing the love and experience of artistic, beautiful singing in children and youth. Since 1992, Cantabella has been “nurturing beautiful children through beautiful singing” by providing:
Educational programs designed for developing music literacy, healthy vocal techniques and choral artistry
Only the finest choral literature, since we believe as Zoltan Kodaly did that “children should be led to musical masterpieces by means of musical masterpieces.”
Active participation in performances which develops poise, confidence, self-esteem, teamwork and the satisfaction of striving toward excellence.
Our youngest members (K–5th) are taught in the Cantabella Training Choirs (CTC) which offer an excellent program using the methods of Hungarian music educator Zoltan Kodály. Singers progress through three training levels in classes with no more than 13-18 students for more individual attention.
As members complete the Training Choir program, they are invited to join our first level Performing Choir. The Cantabella Children’s Choir (CC) is composed of choristers in the 5th-8th grades. At this level, written music theory is also studied along with increasing use of solfege training.
As musicianship and vocal ability develop, older choristers (7th–12th grades) continue in the Chamber Choir (CH), where they experience repertoire for SATB voicing (soprano, alto, treble and bass). Treble singers, in the 7th-12th grades, who are interested in further developing their vocal performance skills and representing Cantabella in traveling competition may audition for the Honors Choir (HC).
Choristers are placed in choirs according to age, maturity, music ability, and theory knowledge. Rehearsals are held once a week with occasional extra rehearsals when preparing for major performances. All choirs from the youngest to the oldest perform at annual Christmas and Spring concerts in major performance halls, accompanied by professional musicians, showcasing a variety of choral music in different languages.
The Performing Choirs (CC, CH and HC) present larger choral works with other professional music organizations, such as Valley Concert Chorale and Livermore Valley Opera. They also have the opportunity to participate in choral festivals and competitions which introduce them to other choral groups and renowned clinicians.
Through all of these experiences, we encourage our young people to find their own voice within, connect with each other and with the world beyond.
